TOP TEN TUESDAY: Books I was "Forced" to Read

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

This week's topic is: Top Ten Books I was “Forced” to Read

Book Club: A few years back, our staff started a faculty book club, a la Kelly Gallagher. Each month we vote on titles we want to read. Sometimes the books are okay, sometimes they are so not my thing, and sometimes they are absolutely perfect! My favorite part about book club is that it FORCES me out of my reading comfort zone; I read titles that I would never have picked up on my own. These five titles are my absolute favorites from the last two years of reading:

1. Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand
2. Room by Emma Donoghue
3. Columbine by Dave Cullen
4. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
5. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

Friends and Family: Often I am the one recommending books to my friends and family, seeing as I basically have books permanently attached to my body. Every once in awhile though a friend will tell me about a hidden gem that I hadn’t yet run across. For example, Looking for Alaska? Before I even knew about John Green, my brother (who NEVER reads) called me up and told me I had to read this book. I read it and became a John Green fanatic soon after. These are all titles my friends and family  FORCED me, or highly encouraged me, to read because they loved them so much:

6. Looking for Alaska by John Green
7. City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
8. Every Day by David Levithan
9. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
10. Slammed by Colleen Hoover

  2. I'm not sure what surprises me more, your brother calling you or your brother recommending a book. Probably the book recommendation. WOW

AHHHHHHH SO MANY AWESOME BOOKS. I'm so proud of your book club, friends and family =D I was kindof "forced" into reading City of Bones because the movie was coming out and I can't stand watching the movie without reading the original book first so in a way... It's counted? Haha, I'll still have to read Shatter Me and Looking for Alaska, all the pressure from the blogosphere is getting to me!!

  4. I adored Slammed, and I was really hesitant to read that one at first. I love John Green, Nerdfighter!!! I really want to read Tahereh Mafi's books, I've heard some amazing things. I really wanted to love Every Day but I just had way too many issues with it to like it. My TTT
