It's Monday! What are You Reading?

It’s Monday! What are you Reading? (#IMWAYR) is a weekly meme hosted by Sheila at Book Journeys with a kid/YA-lit spin hosted by Kellee at Unleashing Readers and Jen at Teach Mentor Texts.

Past Reads: As I knew would happen, now that school started my reading has slowed WAY down. I finished two books - I Hunt Killers by Barry Lyga and Of Triton by Anna Banks - and am halfway through a third - The End Games by T. Michael Martin. I absolutely LOVED I Hunt Killers! It’s a fast-paced crime thriller that reminded me a lot of the T.V. show Dexter (at least in some ways). I highly recommend it to everyone. I was a little bit disappointed in Of Triton only because I enjoyed Of Poseidon so much. It is still a cute story, but not as good as the first book in the series (I hate when that happens - such a let down).

Current Reads: I am halfway through T. Michael Martin’s The End Games and the verdict’s still out. There’s a lot I like about it, but there’s also a lot that I’m struggling with. It took me awhile to get into the book (kind of confusing in the beginning and I wasn’t necessarily giving it my undivided attention), but I think I’m finally starting to get hooked. I’m interested to see how the story ends.

Here’s the goodreads summary of the book: It happened on Halloween.

The world ended.

And a dangerous Game brought it back to life.

Seventeen-year-old Michael and his five-year-old brother, Patrick, have been battling monsters in The Game for weeks.

In the rural mountains of West Virginia, armed with only their rifle and their love for each other, the brothers follow Instructions from the mysterious Game Master. They spend their days searching for survivors, their nights fighting endless hordes of “Bellows”—creatures that roam the dark, roaring for flesh. And at this Game, Michael and Patrick are very good.

But The Game is changing.

The Bellows are evolving.

The Game Master is leading Michael and Patrick to other survivors—survivors who don’t play by the rules.

And the brothers will never be the same.

T. Michael Martin’s debut novel is a transcendent thriller filled with electrifying action, searing emotional insight, and unexpected romance.

Future Reads: With the upcoming Labor Day weekend, I’m hoping to get through three books this week (maybe too ambitious): Doll Bones by Holly Black, Winger by Andew Smith, and Pivot Point by Kasie West. All three have been getting recommendations all over the internet, so I’m excited to see what they are all about. Here’s to a happy reading week!

What are you reading? What have you just finished? What are your top recommendations? Leave me a comment as I'm always looking for books to add to my To-Be-Read list!

  1. I couldn't get into The End Games, but maybe I should try again? LOVED I Hunt Killers and Game. So creepy. Doll Bones was wonderful, though not what I was expecting. Winger will be on my Best of 2013 list for sure. Loved it. I hope you enjoy! http://wp.me/pzUn5-1DS

  2. I'm halfway through The End Games and I'm really struggling. I'm trying to give it the benefit of the doubt, but honestly, it's a bit confusing...I can only imagine what some of my students might think.
